Last Week our awesome 1st and 2nd graders went on a snorkeling field trip, actually TWO field trips to Anini Beach. The students were led by Terry, Lifeguards Pat and Jenny, all underwater experts. We saw all kinds of fish species and coral. Terry captured our trip on film. Back in class the students gathered around to see their trip up close. Terry pointed out each student underwater and they looked closely at the health and unhealthy coral we were able to observe. It was exciting and we can’t wait to get back in the water.

We are excited to announce that student-led conferences will be on May 4th,5th and 6th. The students are very excited about sharing their classroom and class work with their families. They have been very busy reflecting on their work and looking at their progress throughout the year. The students also completed some beautiful coat hanger book reports that are displayed in our room. It was great to see the students get up and present their reports with confidence and pride in a job well done. Through the book report assignment the students fostered their love for reading, as well as improved their comprehension. We are really enjoying our last trimester together in this school year. Thanks for all the wonderful parent support and involvement. It really makes a huge difference.

The students in 1st and 2nd grade are learning to write using the writing process. Using the 5 steps; prewrite, write, revise, edit, and publish enable the students to organize their thoughts and stay on topic. We are also learning the different types of writing. They are now working on a narrative paragraph about a happy experience they have had with their family or friends. It is so amazing to see how their voice comes through in their writing. Next, we will write a descriptive essay using many adjectives and sensory words to make their writing come alive. I am so proud of our class for working so hard on their projects and it is wonderful to see their confidence growing towards writing.
