Creative Dance

The 5/6 were studying Hawai’i s last king, Kawika Kalakaua. We used the drama techniques of snapshot (individual frozen shapes) and tableau (groups frozen shape) to reflect on what we learned about Kalakaua. Their tableau shows their kinesthetic representation of Hawai’is state seal.

Grade 1-2 explored the idea of safety by creating shapes that showed balance and a sense of respect for each other’s personal space

This is a backwards shape performed with great focus and commitment

Aloha All

So happy to be back at KPS enjoying all these incredible children, stellar teachers and wonderful ‘ohana.

Mondays are wonderful! We start the week with storydance. This class introduces children to the elements of creative dance and drama and delights them with the power of storytelling. Our themes interweave with the units of inquiry for each class. We are exploring ourselves in Prek/K, safety in 1/2, conflict resolution in 3/4 and fair play for all in 5/6.

Ask your kids to teach you how to play Magical Mirrors. It’s a wonderful way for family to have fun together.

Thursdays we step into the powerful world of Hawaiian culture. Students learn the basic steps of hula and the art of chanting in Hawaiian, We sing songs of our island home and explore traditional crafts and games. The history of Hawaii is revealed through the poetry of the music and helps us to better understand the paradise we are so blessed to be able to live in.

Stay tuned for more insights into our exciting work.
